The government has said it scrapped the names of 53 “July fighters” from the official list earlier published in the official gazette in view of various complaints and irregularities.
According to a Liberation War Ministry notification issued yesterday, the 53 individuals who were stripped of their status as “July fighters” hailed from Rangpur Division.
Earlier, on 3 August, in an identical order, eight people from different parts of the country lost their status as “July fighters” after discrepancies were found during a verification process.
According to official statistics, the number of July warriors is 13,800, while the number of martyrs is 836.
