On Tuesday, NP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that the late Barrister Maudud Ahmed, a distinguished lawyer and politician, epitomised the essence of democratic leadership.
Maudud Ahmed exemplified the principles of democracy in his leadership. "We will discover this characteristic within this book and in his other writings, reflecting his essence as a democratic political leader," he remarked while serving as the chief guest at the book launch ceremony for "Demise of Democracy: Bangladesh on the Way to a Failed State, 2009-2019," authored by Maudud Ahmed, held at a hotel in Gulshan.
In reference to Barrister Maudud Ahmed’s unwavering advocacy for the marginalised and downtrodden, Fakhrul remarked, “Following independence, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established a regime of misgovernance, subjecting ordinary citizens to torment through the creation of the Rakkhi Bahini.” Maudud Ahmed positioned himself alongside these oppressed individuals.
Emphasising the politician’s role in the realm of historical practice, the senior BNP leader remarked, “He approached the work of historical practice with both sincerity and dedication.” As a politician, he may encounter criticism or controversy; however, I find it difficult to identify any grounds for reproach regarding his historical writings.
Highlighting the significance of these literary works for the younger generation, he asserted, “I contend that engaging with this book is profoundly essential for our youth, who have achieved remarkable success and liberated us from the grip of fascism.”
