A major fire that swept through a commercial building in the bustling Bagher Bazar area of Gazipur this morning has been brought under control after a protracted operation by the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD).

The blaze reportedly began in one of the commercial buildings around dawn and quickly spread to adjacent shops, prompting a swift and massive emergency response.

A total of nine firefighting teams were mobilised to the scene. Working under challenging conditions, the crews battled the flames for several hours before officially declaring the fire under control. Officials confirmed the fire was primarily aggravated by rapid spread via adjoining roof and storage areas.

Crucially, no casualties have been confirmed so far. However, damage to business premises is substantial and is still being assessed by authorities.

Local residents and shopkeepers praised the fire crews for their prompt response and resilience. “We saw the smoke rising very fast,” said one shopkeeper who wished to remain anonymous. “Thanks to the firefighters’ brave efforts, the flames didn’t take over more of the market.”

The origin of the fire remains under investigation. FSCD and police officials are currently working to determine the exact cause and the estimated financial loss to the affected businesses.
