Govt offers financial relief to families of earthquake victims

The government has extended financial help to the relatives of those killed or injured in Friday’s earthquake in Dhaka and other regions of the country.

Each family of the deceased received Tk 25,000, and those injured received Tk 15,000 from their respective district governments.

Following the earthquake, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief promptly established an emergency response centre at the Department of Disaster Management.

The centre’s phone number is 02-58811651. Preliminary data on casualties and damage were collected by the centre in collaboration with all district governments.

Initial loss reports have been received from Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Narsingdi, and Magura districts.

Dhaka reported four deaths and 59 injuries, Narayanganj one death and 18 injuries, Narsingdi five deaths and 110 injuries, Gazipur 252 injuries, and Magura 22 injuries.

The earthquake killed 10 people and injured 461 others, according to reports.

Many of the injured have already returned home after obtaining initial medical attention at local hospitals.

Authorities are taking the required steps to determine the total damage caused by the earthquake.
