Chattogram Port Rakkha Parishad (CPRP) postponed its Chattogram port blockade programme that was scheduled to begin on Monday.

The CPRP threw the agitation programme earlier to protest against the lease contracts of Chattogram Port Authority’s (CPA) two giant container handling facilities – Chattogram Container Terminal (CCT) and New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) – with foreign operators.

CPRP convener Hasan Maruf Rumi told journalists on Monday that they postponed the protest programme following a successful discussion with the CPA, as they got assurance from the authority regarding upholding the interest of CCT and NCT workers.

Earlier on Saturday, the organisation at a press conference at the Chattogram Press Club announced a blockade programme in the Boropool, Agrabad, and Siemens Hostel areas starting at 6 am on Monday.

Md. Humayun Kabir, member secretary of CPRP, stated that they had a discussion meeting with the acting chairman of CPA on Monday. The CPA chairman requested them to withdraw from Monday’s blockade programme as a decision is expected to come from the court soon.

Hearing of a writ petition challenging the lease contract of the CPA facilities, filed with the High Court earlier, is scheduled to be held tomorrow (Tuesday).

He said they are observing the situation and will remain vigilant over the progress. They will take a decision on the announcement of a fresh agitation programme on November 26 based on the situation.
