Sonali Bank PLC authorities have withdrawn the Taka 45-crore loan default lawsuit against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, and 14 others in connection with Dandy Dyeing Limited’s alleged failure.

Khaleda Zia’s lawyer, Mostaq Ahmed Koel, confirmed to BSS that Dhaka Money Loan Court-1 issued the ruling on November 11, approving the Sonali Bank authorities’ plea.

According to Sonali Bank panel lawyer Advocate Jahangir Hossain, the case was discontinued when the company paid off its bank debts. “We filed a motion to remove the action after complete reimbursement. “The court granted the petition,” he explained.

According to the court papers, on October 2, 2013, Sonali Bank’s senior executive officer Nazrul Islam filed a money loan recovery case at Dhaka’s 1st Money Loan Court, charging Dandy Dyeing Ltd of failing to repay Taka 45,593,729.

Following the death of co-accused Arafat Rahman Koko on March 8, 2015, the bank wanted to include his mother, Khaleda Zia; wife, Sharmila Rahman; and daughters, Jafia and Zahia, as defendants under Islamic inheritance regulations. The court accepted the plea on March 16, 2015.

On February 22, 2016, the court issued charges against all 16 defendants, including Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.

Dandy Dyeing Ltd, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Sharmila Rahman, Jafia Rahman, Zahia Rahman, Shams Eskander, Safin Eskander, Sumaiya Eskander, Begum Nasrin Ahmed, Giasuddin Al Mamun, his wife Shahina Yasmin, Kazi Galib Ahmed, Shamsun Nahar, and Masud Hasan were the defendants.
