On Wednesday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin reaffirmed the Election Commission’s commitment to guaranteeing a free, fair, and neutral 13th national election, stating that any attempts to disrupt the polls will be addressed with stern action and national support.
“With the help of everyone—including citizens, voters, and the media—we will hold a free, fair, and neutral election. We believe we will succeed,” he stated.
He made the statements in response to reporters’ questions after reviewing Border Guard Bangladesh’s (BGB) election preparation and training activities at the Dhaka Battalion (5 BGB) training area in BGB Headquarters, Peelkhana.
Responding to a political party’s threats to boycott the election if it is prohibited from participating, the CEC stated that it is well prepared.
“Those who announced to resist the election will be faced collectively with the support of the people, voters and the media,” according to him.
He went on to say, “We shall all work together to resist any unpleasant circumstance. InshaAllah, no similar incident will occur.
Speaking about the overall law and order situation, Nasir Uddin stated that it is already better than it was on August 5, 2025, and will continue to improve as the election date nears.
“The law and order situation will improve gradually. “Everything is falling into place as the election approaches,” he explained.
He assured caution by saying, “We will hold the election while maintaining law and order.”
The CEC applauded the role of law enforcement agencies, stating that their comprehensive election-related training, which includes BGB, police, and Ansar, will considerably improve their performance during polling responsibilities and contribute to delivering a ‘beautiful election’ to the nation.
The CEC announced that it will meet with law enforcement agencies on November 30 to finalise deployment strategy.
Security preparations will be set based on a risk assessment that classifies polling stations as red, yellow, or green.
The inspection was attended by election commissioners, the Election Commission’s Senior Secretary, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, senior Ministry of Home Affairs officials, and BGB high-level staff.
Following the training session, the CEC addressed the media, applauding the professionalism, dedication, and readiness of BGB members to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.
He emphasised the need for field-level BGB personnel in preserving discipline and neutrality during the election process.
Later, the CEC convened a meeting of BGB members of all ranks at the Shaheed Shakil Ahmed Hall to share views.
All BGB regions, sectors, battalions, and units from around the country participated in the session via video teleconference.
During the discussion, the CEC provided strategic advice to BGB officers assigned to election tasks and praised their comprehensive preparation and commitment.
According to BGB, 1,210 platoons of the force would be deployed nationally for election purposes.
BGB personnel will be on duty in all upazilas except Sandwip, Hatia, and Kutubdia, and they will operate autonomously in 60 of the 115 border upazilas.
The election training for BGB personnel began on August 24, 2025, and will continue until January 22, 2026, with the full programme divided into four phases.
