A mild earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale was felt in Dhaka and several other parts of the country at 4:15:47pm on Thursday.

No casualties or damage were reported immediately after the tremor.

The information was confirmed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

Speaking to the media, Rubaiyat Kabir, acting officer at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Monitoring Centre, said that the quake was felt in the capital and that the Met Office was analysing data to determine the final magnitude and impact.

Meanwhile, India’s National Centre for Seismology (NCS) also reported the event, stating that the quake had a magnitude of 3.6 and occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres below the surface.

The latest tremor comes amid heightened seismic activity in the region. Between 22 and 23 November, Dhaka and its surrounding districts experienced four earthquakes within two days—three with epicentres in Narsingdi and one in Dhaka. Of these, one quake struck on Friday (21 November) and three more on Saturday (22 November).

The recurring tremors have once again raised concerns about the seismic vulnerability of densely populated urban centres, particularly the capital.
