Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperative Organisations Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan stated on Thursday that he would engage in consultations with senior government officials before formally announcing his resignation in order to participate in the impending national election.

He delivered these remarks while addressing reporters at the Secretariat during the inauguration of public libraries in 44 upazilas across 11 districts.

Asif Mahmud has verified that he has previously stated his intention to participate in the election but has not yet revealed the constituency from which he intends to contest. He stated that discussions are ongoing concerning the involvement of not only the two student advisers but also several other individuals presently occupying government positions.

The adviser stated that there is no law prohibiting members of the interim government’s advisory commission from taking part in elections. Nonetheless, he acknowledged that participating in electoral contests while serving in an advisory role could potentially lead to a conflict of interest.

From a principled perspective, we hold that any individual intending to contest must resign prior to participating in the electoral process. We are making the necessary preparations," he stated.
