Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has conveyed deep condolences to the governments of Sri Lanka and Thailand following two separate natural disasters that claimed multiple lives and caused widespread devastation in the region.

In messages sent to the respective heads of government, the Chief Adviser expressed solidarity on behalf of the people and government of Bangladesh, offering support and sympathy as both nations grapple with severe humanitarian crises.

Condolence Message to Sri Lanka Over ‘Cyclone Ditwah’

Professor Yunus wrote to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressing grief over the casualties and destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwah, described as one of the worst weather-related disasters to hit Sri Lanka recently.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of lives and the widespread devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah,” the Chief Adviser said in his message released by the Press Wing on Monday.

He offered heartfelt condolences to bereaved families and wished a swift recovery for the injured.

Yunus added that Bangladesh stands “ready to extend any possible support or assistance,” including cooperation in flood management, search and rescue operations, medical assistance, and other humanitarian needs.

Condolence Message to Thailand Over Deadly Floods

In another message, Professor Yunus conveyed condolences to Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul following severe floods in southern Thailand that caused significant loss of life and property damage.

“I have learnt with grave concern about the recent floods that have taken so many precious lives and caused widespread destruction,” he said.

The Chief Adviser expressed sympathy for families who lost loved ones or suffered injuries and displacement, adding that Bangladesh’s thoughts and prayers remain with the people of Thailand.

He expressed confidence that Thailand, under its current leadership, would recover from the disaster and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s readiness to extend all possible support for relief and recovery efforts.

In both letters, Professor Yunus concluded with assurances of his “highest consideration,” underscoring Bangladesh’s commitment to regional solidarity during natural calamities.
