Attorney General (AG) Md Asaduzzaman said on Friday that whether Tarique Rahman is a Bangladeshi voter is irrelevant, as he seeks to run in the country's elections.
"If he (Tarique Rahman) wanted to participate in the elections, it must be assumed that he is a citizen and voter of Bangladesh," he said on Friday morning while speaking at the Haji Welfare Association's anniversary event at Shailkupa Government Degree College field.
The Attorney General announced that the trial in the July mass killing case is underway. "We have taken all necessary steps to ensure an expedited trial. "There is no way to disrupt or delay the judicial process," he said.
Alhaj Md Lutfor Rahman Tulu, president of the Shailkupa Upazila Haji Welfare Association, presided over the anniversary programme. Hajjis and worshippers from all over the upazila attended the event.
A special doa and munajat were offered in order to recover Begum Khaleda Zia, chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and three-time Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
