The ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her party's deputy and former Road, Transport, and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and 31 others have been charged in connection with the death of truck driver Hossain during the July Mass Uprising.

On November 23, police filed a charge sheet in Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. The Investigation Officer (IO) and Mohammadpur Police Station Sub-Inspector Akramuzzaman filed charges under sections 302/34, 143/147/148/149/109/120-kha/324/326/327/114 of the criminal code.

The other prominent accused in the case are former Foreign Affairs Minister Hasan Mahmud and former Textiles and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former state minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former lawmaker Sadek Khan, and president and general secretary of the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, Saddam Hossain, and Sheikh Wali Asif Enan.

According to the case documents, Md Hossain, 25, parked his truck in Gabtoli on July 19, 2024, and was on his way home when a statewide curfew was enforced. As he approached Hossain Market in Mohammadpur's Chad Udyan region, members of Awami League, Jubo League, and the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League opened fire. Md Hossain, Sajjad Hossain Jihad, and Shahin were shot. Md. Hossain died on the scene.

Hossain's mother, Rina Begum, filed the case with the Mohammadpur Police Station on August 31, 2024.
