Malaysian High Commissioner Mohd Shuhada Othman said on Saturday that the country's Visit Malaysia Year campaign aims to attract 300,000 Bangladeshi tourists by 2026, emphasising the importance of stronger tourism ties and proper use of the official e-Visa system.
The envoy made the remarks while launching the Malaysia Tourism Fair and the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 promotional campaign at the InterContinental Dhaka's Crystal Ballroom.
"Bangladesh remains one of Malaysia's strongest and fastest-growing tourist markets," Shuhada stated, adding that the tourism revival strategy includes targeted outreach to Bangladeshi visitors.
Responding to reports of travellers being turned away at Malaysian immigration, the High Commissioner stated that the e-Visa process is "systematic and straightforward" when applicants use the official portal.
He warned that discrepancies between third-party applications could lead to complications, including blacklisting.
He urged citizens to apply directly through the official e-Visa platform, which is frequently linked on the High Commission's Facebook page.
"Please feel free to contact us for advice," he added, assuring assistance as needed.
Shuhada also launched Festival Malaysia during the event, stating that the initiative will promote Malaysian culture, hospitality, and travel offerings under the theme "Malaysia Truly Asia – Visit Malaysia 2026".
He thanked event sponsors, including the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture and Tourism Malaysia, for their contributions to strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation.
