The Bangladesh Ansar-VDP Humanitarian Assistance Centre, which was established to help victims of the devastating Korail Slum fire at the T&T ground in Gulshan, completed its nine-day relief operation on Saturday, marking the end of an intensive service programme aimed at assisting displaced families.

According to the press release, the centre distributed emergency food, winter clothing, and daily cooked meals to affected residents over the course of nine days.

On the final day, packets of powdered milk were distributed to 1,200 children affected by the fire.

Ansar, Bangladesh's Additional Director General, and VDP Brigadier General Fida Mahmud were the chief guests at the closing ceremony.

He emphasised the organisation's commitment to humanitarian service, saying, "After a disaster like the fire, our main goal was to provide humanitarian assistance to people to help them recover from their mental and physical losses."

He added that the force is still committed to assisting vulnerable people during future crises.

The November 25 fire displaced over 1,000 people, causing severe shortages of shelter and basic necessities.

The humanitarian centre, under the direction of Bangladesh's Director General Ansar and VDP Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, was opened on November 28 under the motto "Manush Manusher Jonno" (People for People).

In response to the deteriorating winter weather, Bangladesh Ansar and VDP distributed 500 blankets and 400 winter garments.

Furthermore, the centre provided cooked meals to 2,000 people twice a day for nine days, ensuring basic food security for displaced families.

The force is also working to establish alternative water supply points to ensure slum dwellers have access to safe drinking water.

Once completed, these installations are expected to provide long-term water security to the community.

Bangladesh Ansar-VDP's coordinated relief efforts have emerged as a source of hope and resilience for the victims of the Korail Slum fire, restoring their confidence as they begin to rebuild.
