Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has announced that individuals holding recognised degrees from Qawmi Madrasas will now be eligible to serve as marriage registrars (Qazis).

In a post on his verified Facebook page, Dr Nazrul said the opportunity, previously limited to those with Alim certificates, has now been expanded. “From now on, those with a recognised degree from a Qawmi Madrasa will be able to become Nikah (marriage) registrars (Qazis),” he wrote.

He added that the law ministry has amended the relevant rules to broaden this scope. Effective from Monday, individuals holding Dawra-e-Hadith certificates from any recognised Qawmi Madrasa board will also be able to apply for the position.
