A court in Dhaka on Thursday sentenced housemaid Ayesha Akter and her husband Rabbi to different terms of remand in a case involving the murder of housewife Laila Afroz and her daughter Nafisa Lawal Binte Aziz, in the capital's Mohammadpur area.

Ayesha was placed on a six-day remand, while Rabbi was remanded for three days.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam issued the order after police brought the duo before the court and requested 10 days' remand for each of them.

According to the case documents, on December 5, Ayesha was hired as a domestic worker for schoolteacher Azizul Islam's Shahjahan Road flat. On December 8, Azizul left for work in Uttara as usual, and he later attempted to contact his wife several times but was unable to reach her.

Concerned, he returned home around 11:00 am and discovered his wife's body inside the flat. His 15-year-old daughter was discovered critically injured. With the help of a flat staff member, Azizul rushed her to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Azizul later filed a case with the Mohammadpur Police Station.
