Two mild tremors were felt in Sylhet’s Beanibazar and Moulvibazar’s Barlekha within a span of five minutes on Wednesday midnight, according to the Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The first tremor occurred at 2:50:31 am, with its epicentre in Beanibazar, Sylhet, measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale.

Another tremor followed five minutes later, at 2:55:14 am, originating from Barlekha in Moulvibazar, with a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale.

Rubaiyat Kabir, the acting officer of the Earthquake Monitoring Centre, told BSS on Thursday mild tremors are often felt in these areas of the Himalayan foothills, including Myanmar, Assam, Tripura, and Sylhet.

Such mild earthquakes usually do not cause any damage, and there is no reason for panic, he added.
