Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus stated on Friday that the attack on the country’s two biggest media outlets was an attack on free media.
“The attack on the country’s two largest media outlets represents an attack on free media and poses a significant challenge to the country’s democratic progress and the path of independent journalism,” he stated.
According to a statement released by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on Friday afternoon, the Chief Adviser made the remarks when speaking on the phone with the editors of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star following the attack on the two media outlets on Thursday night.
Prof Yunus expressed his heartfelt sorrow to Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, saying, “This unwanted and barbaric attack on your institutions and journalists has deeply shocked me.”
The government is here for you throughout this difficult time.”
During the phone call, he assured the editors that they and their media groups would have complete security and assistance.
The Chief Adviser also stated that he planned to meet with the editors in person soon.
