In a statement issued on Friday, the interim government urged all citizens to resist any form of mob violence perpetrated by a few "fringe elements".

"We strongly and unequivocally condemn all acts of violence, intimidation, arson, and property destruction," read a statement issued by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing on Friday afternoon.

"This is a watershed moment in our country's history, as we make a historic democratic transition. We cannot and must not allow it to be derailed by a small group of people who thrive on chaos and reject peace," the statement read.

The statement emphasised that the upcoming elections and referendum are more than just political exercises; they are a solemn national commitment.

"This promise cannot be separated from the dream for which Saheed Sharif Osman Hadi gave his life. "Honouring his sacrifice and memory necessitates restraint, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to reject hatred," it stated.

Regarding the attack on two media outlets on Thursday night, the statement read, "To the journalists of The Daily Star, Prothom Alo, and New Age: we stand with you. We are deeply sorry for the terror and violence you have experienced.

"The nation has seen your courage and tolerance in the face of terrorism.  Attacks on journalists are attacks on the truth itself. We promise you full justice," it said, adding, "We strongly condemn the lynching of a Hindu man in Mymensingh."

According to the statement, there is no place for such violence in the new Bangladesh, and the perpetrators of this heinous crime will not be spared.

"At this critical hour, we call on every citizen to honour Shaheed Hadi by rejecting and resisting violence, incitement, and hatred," the statement continued.
