Sharif Osman Hadi, a Bangladeshi political activist killed earlier this month, will be buried next to the grave of Bangladesh’s national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, according to his organisation.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Friday evening, Inqilab Mancha stated the decision was made in response to a plea from Osman Hadi’s family.
The organisation stated that the truck transporting his body had departed the airport for a mortuary, where it would be held temporarily. Inqilab Mancha supporters were likely to remain in Shahbagh during this time.
Inqilab Mancha also announced that Osman Hadi’s funeral prayers would be held on Saturday after Zuhr prayers at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka, followed by his burial next to the national poet’s grave.
The group also stated that as a result of the amended burial plans, the body would be transported to the Central Mosque on Saturday rather than Friday, accompanied by a procession.
In its statement, Inqilab Mancha asked students and supporters to continue their efforts in a peaceful and disciplined manner, warning against any attempts by outside parties to abuse the situation or incite violence.
Osman Hadi’s death has received extensive attention in Bangladesh, coinciding with increased fears about political violence during the election season.
