The United States Senate has officially confirmed veteran diplomat Brent Christensen as the next US Ambassador to Bangladesh, filling a critical diplomatic vacancy that had been open for more than a year.
"I am honoured to be confirmed by the United States Senate and deeply grateful to President Trump for the opportunity to serve as the next United States Ambassador to Bangladesh," Christensen wrote on his verified LinkedIn page after his confirmation as the new ambassador.
During his nomination hearing before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, the ambassador-designate stated that the United States supports Bangladesh's progress towards a bright and democratic future.
He said Bangladeshis are expected to vote early next year in what he described as the country's most important election in decades, to elect a new government and chart a new course.
Christensen also emphasised his more than two decades of experience working on US policy towards Bangladesh during his Foreign Service career, which included a previous assignment in Dhaka.
According to his official profile on the State Department website, he worked as Counsellor for Political and Economic Affairs at the US Embassy in Dhaka from 2019 to 2021.
