On Saturday afternoon, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus attended the namaj-e-janaza of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi at the South Plaza of the Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka.

Advisors to the interim government, senior government officials, and hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life joined his janaza to pray for the forgiveness of Shaheed Hadi's departed soul.

Hadi's elder brother, Mawlana Dr Abu Bakar Siddique, performed the namaj-e-janaza.

Earlier, Prof Yunus spoke at the event, and Religious Affairs Adviser A F M Khalid Hossain also spoke and read Shaheed Hadi’s biography.

Abdullah Al Zaber, Member Secretary of Inqilab Mancha, also spoke at the occasion.

The South Plaza of the Sangsad Bhaban and the entire Manik Mia Avenue witnessed a mixed scene of emotion and resistance, with some people crying for Hadi and others chanting slogans against fascism and hegemony, as well as demanding a trial for Hadi's killing.

Sharif Osman Hadi, the fearless frontline fighter of the July Uprising and spokesperson for the Inqilab Mancha, was shot on December 12 while riding a battery-powered auto-rickshaw in the city's Paltan neighbourhood.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and then transferred to Evercare Hospital the same day his condition deteriorated.

Hadi was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for further treatment, where he died on Thursday night from his bullet wounds, casting a pall over the entire country.

Hadi, an aspiring independent candidate for Dhaka-8, is regarded as "an immortal soldier in the struggle against fascism and hegemony."
