An admission candidate was detained by the authorities for allegedly adopting unfair means during the first-year undergraduate admission test (2025-26 academic session) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Monday.
The incident occurred around 11:00 am during the second shift of the admission test under the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Zahir Raihan Auditorium centre.
The detainee was identified as Sadia Amir Mahin, daughter of Amir Hossain Jewel hailing from Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. According to the university’s proctorial body, the candidate allegedly took photographs of the question paper using a mobile phone and filled in the OMR sheet by obtaining answers through artificial intelligence (ChatGPT).
During the test, she allegedly took photographs of the question paper using a mobile phone and filled in the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) answer sheet by using ChatGPT (artificial intelligence) to obtain answers.
She was later detained and taken to the proctor’s office for interrogation. JU Proctor Professor Dr A K M Rashidul Alam said a set of recommendations regarding the detainee would be sent to the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences after the examination.
He added that the university has requested the Dhaka District Administration to conduct a mobile court, and further action would be taken after the arrival of an executive magistrate.
