Jaishankar delivers India’s condolence message to Tarique

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday expressed India’s condolences to BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman on the passing of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, demonstrating New Delhi’s reverence for the distinguished Bangladeshi leader.

Jaishankar convened a meeting with Tarique Rahman at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday afternoon and formally delivered the condolence message, as reported in a post on the BNP’s verified Facebook page.

Neighbouring India has issued a condolence message expressing profound reverence for Begum Khaleda Zia, honouring her as the “Mother of Democracy” and a “Symbol of Courage and Struggle”, an unwavering leader dedicated to preserving independence and sovereignty, according to the Facebook post.

Earlier, the Indian External Affairs Minister arrived in Dhaka on a special flight at approximately 11:30 am to attend the funeral of the former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson.

He was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Pranay Verma, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, as confirmed by personnel of the Indian High Commission.
