Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has called on participating countries, institutions and businesses at the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2026 to work together in a spirit of cooperation and partnership, highlighting the event’s role in strengthening Bangladesh’s economy and global trade ties.

In a message issued on 31 December ahead of the opening of the fair, Professor Yunus said the interim government remained committed to maintaining economic stability while creating conditions for sustainable growth.

“This fair is a unique platform for showcasing Bangladesh’s vast potential to the world,” he said, describing the event as an important window for international engagement and economic collaboration.

The 30th edition of the Dhaka International Trade Fair is set to begin on Saturday at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal, where it will run for a month. Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin is scheduled to inaugurate the fair formally at 10:00am.

The opening was originally planned for 1 January but was rescheduled following the death of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

In his message, Professor Yunus extended greetings to local and international participants, including entrepreneurs, investors, traders and buyers, saying their involvement was vital to the fair’s success.

He emphasised the importance of the DITF in promoting Bangladeshi products at home and abroad, noting that it also allows local businesses and consumers to gain insight into global design standards, product quality and emerging international market trends.

“The fair has consistently served as an effective platform for presenting high-quality locally manufactured goods to domestic and foreign visitors, buyers and importers,” he said.

Professor Yunus added that events like the DITF play a significant role in expanding economic activity, creating employment opportunities and strengthening the country’s export base. He expressed hope that the fair would help encourage product diversification and attract greater foreign investment.

“I firmly believe that through the promotion of local products and stronger international engagement, the trade fair will contribute meaningfully to overall national development,” he said.

Wishing the fair every success, the chief adviser said he expected DITF 2026 to emerge as a vibrant, buyer-friendly and festive event, driven by the active participation of all stakeholders.

The Dhaka International Trade Fair is Bangladesh’s largest annual trade exhibition and regularly draws thousands of visitors, along with businesses from a wide range of sectors, reinforcing its role as a key event on the country’s commercial calendar.
