The charge sheet in the murder case of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancho and a frontline activist during the July Uprising, will be submitted to court on Wednesday, authorities have said.

Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury confirmed that the investigation into the killing has reached its final stage and the charge sheet will be filed on January 7, 2026, 26 days after the attack.

He said the case would be transferred to a speedy trial tribunal to ensure that justice is delivered within the tenure of the interim government.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner for Crime and Operations, SN Md Nazrul Islam, also confirmed the timeline, saying investigators were completing the final formalities.

Police said 11 people have been arrested so far in connection with the killing, and six of them have given confessional statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Those arrested include the alleged mastermind Faisal Karim Masud’s father, Humayun Kabir; mother, Hasi Begum; wife, Shaheda Parvin Samia; brother-in-law, Wahid Ahmed Shipu; and alleged girlfriend, Maria Akter Lima. Other suspects in custody are Md Kabir, Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjal, Sibion Dio, Sanjoy Chisim, Aminul Islam Raju, and Abdul Hannan.

Investigators said the murder was premeditated. The main accused, Faisal Karim Masud, and another suspect, Alamgir Sheikh, are believed to have fled to India after the attack.

“Faisal and another individual crossed the border into India through the Mymensingh region,” SN Md Nazrul Islam said.

During the investigation, police recovered two foreign-made pistols, 52 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, fake number plates, and cheques amounting to Tk 218 crore linked to 53 bank accounts.

DMP Detective Branch Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said several others involved in the killing had been identified, but their names were being withheld for investigative reasons. Based on available evidence, police believe the killing was politically motivated.

Sharif Osman bin Hadi was shot on December 12 at around 2:20pm on Bijoynagar Box Culvert Road under Paltan Police Station while travelling by motorcycle towards Suhrawardy Udyan after campaigning near Motijheel Mosque.

Police said Faisal Karim Masud and an accomplice opened fire on Hadi, leaving him critically injured. He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later moved to Evercare Hospital.

As his condition worsened, Hadi was flown to Singapore on December 15 for advanced treatment. He died three days later at Singapore General Hospital.

Following the attack, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Mancho, filed a case at Paltan Police Station on December 14 on charges including attempted murder, criminal conspiracy and use of dangerous weapons.

After Hadi’s death, a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate on December 20 ordered that Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code be added to the case.
