Bangladesh’s Election Commission has postponed elections in the Pabna-1 and Pabna-2 constituencies, just weeks before the scheduled February 12 national polls, citing a court order related to constituency boundary delimitation.
The decision was announced on Saturday by Akhtar Ahmed, senior secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, while speaking to journalists at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka.
“Election activities for the Pabna-1 and Pabna-2 constituencies have been postponed,” he said. “All election-related activities in these two constituencies are currently suspended.”
The commission clarified that the postponement applies only to the two Pabna constituencies and does not affect the election schedule in other parts of the country.
According to the Election Commission, the decision follows an order issued on January 5, 2026, by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court concerning the delimitation of boundaries for National Parliament constituencies 68 (Pabna-1) and 69 (Pabna-2).
The move had earlier been communicated through an official letter dated January 6, signed by Mohammad Monir Hossain, deputy secretary of the Election Management-2 Branch of the Election Commission Secretariat.
The letter stated that elections in the two constituencies would remain suspended until further directives are issued by the court.
The Election Commission has instructed the deputy commissioner and returning officer of Pabna to take all necessary measures in line with the decision and to suspend election-related processes until further notice.
The 13th national parliamentary election is scheduled to be held on February 12.
