Muslims across Bangladesh observe the holy night of Shab-e-Meraj on Friday with due religious reverence and devotion, marking one of the most significant events in Islamic history.

Shab-e-Meraj is observed every year on the 26th night of the Arabic month of Rajab, commemorating the miraculous night journey of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him).

According to Islamic tradition, the Prophet (PBUH) was taken on a divine journey from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem, known as Isra. This was followed by Meraj, during which he ascended through the heavens on the heavenly steed Buraq and was granted an audience with Almighty Allah.

During this sacred journey, Allah bestowed upon the Prophet (PBUH) the command of five daily prayers, making salah an essential pillar of Islam and a direct link between believers and their Creator.

On the occasion, Muslim devotees are expected to offer special prayers (nafl salah), recitation of the Holy Quran and zikr at mosques and in their homes, seeking forgiveness, mercy and blessings for the peace, prosperity and welfare of the nation and the global Muslim Ummah.

Religious scholars have highlighted the spiritual significance of Shab-e-Meraj, urging believers to reflect on its teachings, particularly the importance of regular prayer, moral conduct and obedience to Allah. Many mosques across the country will organise religious discussions, waz mahfils and night-long prayer sessions to mark the occasion.

State-run and private television and radio channels are expected to broadcast special programmes highlighting the religious and historical importance of the night.

Shab-e-Meraj is observed by Muslims around the world as a reminder of faith, patience and spiritual elevation.
