The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has fixed 18 January for hearing in a case filed over alleged crimes against humanity committed during the student-public mass uprising in July-August last year, involving Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and seven others.

The tribunal set the date for hearing the case against Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretary A F M Bahauddin Nasim and six other accused.

Earlier on Thursday, the tribunal ordered the appointment of state defence lawyers for the fugitive accused in the case.

The other accused include former Information and Broadcasting Minister Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, and Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders including Central President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan.

The prosecution formally submitted the charges in the case on 18 December last year.

Later on, the tribunal ordered publication of notices in newspapers asking the fugitive accused to appear before it.
