Liberation War Affairs and Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Protik, on Monday said that Bangladesh’s future would be determined on the basis of a positive outcome of the referendum.

“Everyone must vote in favour of “yes” in the referendum to bring changes in the country and build a discrimination-free Bangladesh,” he said while addressing a view-exchange meeting in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC)’s office in Joypurhat as the chief guest.

Officials of various ranks working in Joypurhat District regarding the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the Referendum joined the meeting.

The adviser said reforms are crucial to ensure accountability of the administration and leadership and to establish an independent judiciary and electoral system.

The upcoming parliamentary election and referendum are extremely important to bring changes to the existing structure aimed at building a discrimination-free Bangladesh, he added.

He further said those who are affiliated with political parties have different opinions and they will vote according to their choice and there is no position of our interim government on that.

He, however, said that to implement the July Charter, which has been prepared to ensure the accountability of candidates for bringing change to the state structure, you should vote for ‘yes”.

“Then state will belong to you. No one will be able to kill people for years, suppress them, silence voices, create discrimination, or seize voting rights. This is your state and take its key in your own hands through your vote,” he added.

Chaired by DC Joypurhat Md Al Mamun, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Superintendent of Police Mina Mahmuda, District Council Chief Executive Officer Md Raihan Sarkar, District Election Officer Mahmud Hasan and Deputy Director of Local Government Uttam Roy.

Later on, the adviser also addressed a courtyard meeting organised by the district administration and the district information office at Paschim Dogachhi under Dogachhi Union in Joypurhat Sadar Upazila.
