The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 is scheduled to pronounce its judgment on Tuesday in a crime against humanity case over the killing of six people in Dhaka’s Chankharpul area on 5 August 2024.

Prosecution sources said the judgment will be broadcast live on BTV.

The tribunal had set Tuesday for the verdict after the defence concluded its arguments on 24 December 2025. Earlier, on 14 July 2025, ICT-1 framed charges against eight accused in connection with the killings.

The accused are: former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Habibur Rahman, former DMP joint commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, former additional deputy commissioner Shah Alam Mohammad Akhtarul Islam, former assistant commissioner of DMP’s Ramna Zone Mohammad Imrul, former inspector Md Arshad Hossain, and constables Md Sujon, Imaj Hossain Emon and Nasirul Islam.

The first four accused who are yet to be arrested and are being tried in absentia.

The prosecution opened its case on 11 August 2025. Legal representation for the accused included Advocate Saddam Hossain Ovy for inspector Arshad, Barrister Sifat Mahmud for constable Md Sujon, Advocate Shibli Sadekin for constable Imaj Hossain Emon, and Advocate Abul Hasan for constable Nasirul Islam. State-appointed counsel Advocate Md Kutubuddin represented the four fugitives.

Earlier, on 3 June, the tribunal ordered notices to be published in two national dailies requesting the four fugitives to appear. Although published the next day, the accused remained absent, prompting the appointment of state defence counsel.

The prosecution filed the formal charge against all eight accused on 25 May, marking the first formal charge filed at the ICT in cases arising from the July–August Mass Uprising.

The six deceased were identified as Shahriar Khan Anas, Sheikh Mahdi Hasan Zunayed, Md Yakub, Md Rakib Hawlader, Md Ismamul Haque, and Manik Miah. They were killed in Chankharpul on 5 August 2024.

The tribunal’s investigation agency submitted a 90-page probe report on 20 April 2025.
