A court in Dhaka has set January 25 as the new deadline for the submission of a further investigation report in the murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi, a spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha, after investigators failed to file the report on schedule.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order on Tuesday after the Criminal Investigation Department did not submit the supplementary probe report as previously directed. The court had earlier instructed the CID to conduct further investigation following objections raised by the complainant over the initial findings.
On January 15, the court ordered a renewed probe into the killing after the complainant filed a naraji petition, expressing dissatisfaction with the charge sheet and seeking deeper investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder. The court had set Tuesday as the deadline for submitting the report.
The case stems from the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, who was shot while travelling in a battery-run rickshaw on December 12. According to the case statement, the attack was carried out by Foysal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain, who allegedly opened fire from a motorcycle before fleeing the scene.
Inspector Foysal Ahmed of the Detective Branch submitted a charge sheet on January 6 against 17 people, including alleged shooter Foysal Karim Masud and his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum. Of those named, 11 have been arrested and are currently in custody.
The remaining six accused, including Foysal Karim Masud, Alamgir Hossain, alleged mastermind and former ward councillor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, along with Filips Scalp, Mukti Akter and Jesmin Akter, remain at large, police said.
Those already arrested include Masud’s wife, Shaheda Parvin Samia; his brother-in-law, Wahid Ahmed Shipu; Maria Akter Lima, who police described as his alleged girlfriend; and several others identified as Md Kabir, Nuruzzaman Nomani, also known as Ujjal, Civion Dew, Sanjay Chisim, Aminul Islam Raju and Abdul Hannan Foysal.
Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station on December 14. Initially registered as attempted murder, the case was later amended to include murder charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code after Hadi died from his injuries on December 18.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered the inclusion of the murder charge on December 20, paving the way for a full homicide investigation.
The case has drawn public attention due to the nature of the killing and the number of people accused, with the court now seeking further clarification through an expanded probe.
