The final surviving patient of the tragic Milestone School and College fighter jet crash discharged on Wednesday from the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS).

Resident Surgeon of NIBPS Dr Shawon Bin Rahman confirmed the matter.

The patient, Abidur Rahim Abid, an 11-year-old class V student of Milestone School and College, was admitted to the burn institute on 21 July 2025, the day of the incident.

He suffered 22 per cent flame burns involving both upper limbs and face, along with inhalation injury and compartment syndrome in both arms.

His total hospital-stay spanned 183 days, nearly six months of intensive treatment and rehabilitation.

“With Abid's discharge, all 36 injured patients from the Milestone School and College tragedy have now been released following treatment,” Dr Rahman said.

The incident occurred on 21 July 2025, when a Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) fighter jet crashed into a two-storey building of Milestone School and College’s Uttara branch minutes after taking off at around 1pm.

According to the Ministry of Health, the crash claimed 35 lives, including the pilot.

Abid’s recovery and discharge symbolize a moment of relief amid a tragedy that deeply shook the nation, bringing closure to months of relentless medical efforts by doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers at NIBPS.
