Information and Broadcasting Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Wednesday called upon the people to cast “yes” vote in the referendum to realise the dreams of the July fighters and to build a transformed and discrimination-free Bangladesh.

“’Yes’ vote is necessary to eliminate discrimination, continue democratic practices, maintain a balance of power, ensure the rule of law and justice, and keep the administration free from partisan influence,” she said while addressing an awareness and views-exchange meeting on referendum and national election at Rajbari Yeasin High School ground.

Rizwana, also adviser for environment, forest and climate change, and water resources, said July Charter has been adopted on the basis of consensus of all parties to realise the dreams of the July fighters.

The government has formed 11 reform commissions, six of which are directly related to election, she added.

She urged people to vote “yes” in the referendum if they want a balance of power, a parliament with coordination between a lower house and an upper house, want women's empowerment and do not want convicted persons to be pardoned without the opinion of the complainant.

Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana, Rajbari Superintendent of Police Mohammad Manjur Morshed and July fighter Abdullah Al Mamun also spoke at the event with Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Sultana Akter in the chair.

Earlier, the information adviser inaugurated a procession rally on the occasion of the referendum and national election at the Bir Muktijoddha Shahid Khushi Railway Ground.
