Adviser to the Ministries of Housing and Public Works, Industries, and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adilur Rahman Khan has said that only defeated political forces and allies of fascism are campaigning for a ‘No’ vote in the upcoming referendum on the July Charter.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Adilur Rahman Khan said the government was seeking a ‘Yes’ vote to implement the July Charter, which he described as a product of the mass uprising that led to the fall of the previous administration.

The adviser made the remarks after placing a wreath at the memorial dedicated to the martyrs of the Mass Uprising in the district town earlier in the day.

Adilur Rahman Khan said the former government had been ousted through a popular movement driven by the sacrifices of students and ordinary citizens, adding that the current government had emerged directly from that struggle.

He expressed optimism that the forthcoming national election would be held in a peaceful environment and said he expected the public to overwhelmingly endorse the July Charter through a ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum.

Calling on people across the country to participate, Adilur Rahman Khan urged voters to support the charter, saying it reflected the aspirations of those who took part in the mass uprising.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan, Superintendent of Police Marufat Hossain, and other senior government officials were present at the event.
