Bangladesh formally launched e-passport services at its embassy in Libya, expanding secure and modern consular facilities for expatriates living in the country and neighbouring regions, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
The inauguration ceremony, organised by the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, was attended as chief guest by the embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, Kazi Asif Ahmed. Md Jasim Uddin, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Lieutenant Colonel Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Deputy Project Director of the e-Passport and Automated Border Control Management Project, were present as special guests, according to a press release.
The inaugural event, moderated by the embassy’s Counsellor (Labour), Md Aminur Rahman, began with a recitation from the Holy Quran.
Speaking on the occasion, Chargé d’Affaires Ahmed said the launch of e-passport services marked a significant milestone for Bangladeshi expatriates in Libya. He noted that expatriates had long faced delays in passport issuance and renewal, adding that the new service would put an end to those difficulties.
From now on, applications for e-passports, biometric data collection and passport delivery will be completed at the embassy, making consular services more accessible, efficient and secure for expatriates, he said. He added that the initiative reflected the government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted services for Bangladeshis living abroad.
Expatriates attending the ceremony expressed satisfaction at the long-awaited launch of the e-passport service, saying it would reduce hardship, enhance legal protection and improve overall service delivery. They welcomed the government’s initiative to extend modern passport facilities to Bangladeshis residing in Libya.
With the inauguration of e-passport services as the 71st mission, Bangladeshi expatriates living in Libya and countries under the embassy’s jurisdiction will now be able to access faster, safer and more advanced consular services.
