The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday held a meeting with foreign diplomats stationed in Bangladesh to brief them on preparations for the upcoming national parliamentary election and referendum.
The meeting commenced at 10:00 am in the Ballroom of the Westin Hotel in the capital’s Gulshan area.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin attended the meeting, along with Election Commissioners Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Tahmida Ahmad, Md Anwarul Islam Sarker, and Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah Brig Gen (retd).
Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed and other senior officials of the commission were also present.
Ambassadors, high commissioners, and representatives of various countries, as well as officials from the European Union and the United Nations, took part in the meeting.
According to EC sources, the diplomats were briefed on the overall election preparations, the electoral process, the appointment of international observers, measures to ensure transparency, and the prevailing law and order situation, among other matters.
Following the meeting, the Chief Election Commissioner is expected to brief journalists at the Election Commission building, the sources added.
