A major campaign is set to launch across the country’s universities to promote a ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming referendum.

The decision was taken at a meeting between a University Grants Commission (UGC) delegation and Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Professor Ali Riaz in the Sangsad Bhaban area on Sunday evening.

According to the plan, public universities have been divided into six zones—Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Jashore, Mymensingh and Sylhet—to facilitate the campaign.

The initiative will begin with discussions and exchanges of views with students.

Meetings with students in the Dhaka and Mymensingh zones are scheduled for 31 January, followed by Chattogram and Sylhet on 2 February, and Rajshahi and Jashore on 3 February.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof Ali Riaz said the youth have brought an end to the long-standing tyranny over the nation, and their collective efforts will pave the way for a new Bangladesh.

“This is the first opportunity in 54 years to build a democratic, humane and just society, and the role of the youth is crucial in achieving it,” he added.

The view-exchange meetings aim to empower young people across the country to motivate citizens to vote ‘Yes’ in the referendum.

Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haider, along with UGC members Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan and Professor Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossen, was present at the meeting.
