A court in Dhaka issued arrest warrants against 41 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-minister Obaidul Quader, in connection with two killings in Mohammadpur during the July Mass Uprising on Monday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam took cognisance of the charge sheets and set 15 February for submission of reports on the execution of the warrants.
Other notable figures named include former ministers Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Hasan Mahmud, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, lawmaker Sadek Khan and leaders of the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League.
The cases relate to two separate incidents: truck driver Hossain was shot and killed on 19 July 2024, prompting his mother, Rina Begum, to file a case on 31 August 2024. Police later submitted a charge sheet against 34 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina.
In a separate case, CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Sobuj was shot on 4 August 2024 and later died the same day. His brother, Monir Hossain, filed the case on 1 September 2025, and police submitted a charge sheet on 27 November 2025 against 30 people, including Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader.
