Army Chief visits Rangpur to assess election security preparations

Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman paid a visit to Rangpur on Tuesday to oversee security preparations and review troop deployments under the “In Aid to the Civil Power” operation ahead of the upcoming national election.

During the visit, the Army Chief inspected personnel deployed in the region, offered operational guidance and held discussions with representatives of the civil administration aimed at ensuring a free, fair and neutral electoral process.

He underscored the importance of professionalism, strict neutrality, discipline and patience while performing election-related duties, urging troops to maintain a citizen-friendly approach at all times.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman also participated in a coordination meeting at the Rangpur Circuit House.

Senior military officials, Rangpur Divisional and District administrators, and law enforcement officials also attended the meeting.

The meeting focused on strengthening inter-agency coordination, maintaining law and order, and ensuring overall security to support a peaceful and orderly election.

Among those present were the General Officer Commanding of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, the GOC of the 66th Infantry Division and Area Commander of Rangpur, senior officers from Army Headquarters and the Rangpur region, as well as the Rangpur Divisional Commissioner, the DIG of Rangpur Range, and key officials from the civil administration and law enforcement agencies.

Members of the media were also present at that time.

Earlier, the Army Chief had stated that a total of 3,619 weapons were looted during the 2024 uprising, highlighting the importance of heightened vigilance during the election period.
