Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has called for professionalism, impartiality, discipline and citizen-friendly behaviour by all personnel involved in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election and accompanying referendum.
Speaking during a visit to Mymensingh ahead of the 12 February poll, the Army Chief highlighted the importance of inter-agency coordination and efficient security management to ensure free, fair and peaceful election.
“Election duties must be performed with the highest standards of professionalism, patience and impartiality while maintaining respect for citizens,” he said, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.
During the visit, General Waker-Uz-Zaman met senior military officials, law enforcement leaders and civil administration officers at the Mymensingh City Corporation, exchanging views on overall security preparedness and inter-institutional cooperation.
The Army Chief also laid the foundation stone of the Olympic Village at Trishal and attended a board meeting of the Olympic Association, reflecting the army’s engagement in broader social and developmental initiatives.
Senior officials present at the meeting included the General Officer Commanding of Army Training and Doctrine Command, Engineer-in-Chief of the Army, GOCs of key divisions, the Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre, civil administration leaders, and media representatives.
The emphasis on professionalism and citizen-friendly conduct signals the army’s commitment to supporting the electoral process while respecting democratic norms and public trust.
