Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday urged authorities to take swift and decisive action against anyone violating the electoral code of conduct ahead of the upcoming national election.

Speaking as the chief guest at a meeting on law-and-order situation held at Mymensingh City Corporation conference room, the adviser stressed that election laws must be upheld rigorously and no individual or group would be allowed to compromise the integrity of the poll.

“All election violators must be brought to justice promptly,” he said, emphasising that election officials and law enforcement personnel must strictly implement the provisions of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2025, and all related directives issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Election Commission.

Lt Gen Jahangir highlighted the need for continuous monitoring and regular briefings at district and metropolitan levels to ensure all subordinate officers are fully aware of their election responsibilities.

He cautioned that officials with known partisan leanings, controversial histories, or previous irregularities should not be assigned any election-related duties.

The adviser also underscored the role of modern technology in maintaining law and order, particularly the “Nirbachan Surakhya App (Election Protection App) 2026” developed by the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC).

He urged authorities to complete training on the app promptly, noting that it would allow quick reporting and resolution of election-related complaints.

In addition to enforcement, Lt Gen Jahangir stressed the importance of logistical readiness, including proper preparation of polling stations, ensuring smooth access roads, timely transportation of ballot boxes and election materials, and overall coordination to guarantee a safe, fair and festive voting environment.

“Election day must be conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, with full safety for voters, officials and the general public,” he said, calling for coordinated efforts among all agencies to achieve that goal.
