A Dhaka court has set 9 February as the new deadline for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit its report on the further investigation into the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, a case that has drawn widespread public attention.

The order was passed on Tuesday by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah after the CID failed to submit the report within the previously stipulated timeframe.

The court had earlier, on 15 January 2026, directed the CID to conduct a further probe into the case following the filing of a naraji petition by the complainant, who expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation carried out by the Detective Branch (DB) of police.

The DB submitted a charge sheet on 6 January against 17 accused, including alleged shooter Foysal Karim Masud and his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum. The charge sheet was filed by Inspector Foysal Ahmed of the Detective Branch.

According to the case statement, Foysal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain allegedly opened fire on Sharif Osman Hadi while he was travelling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw on 12 December, before fleeing the scene. Hadi later succumbed to his injuries.

The case was filed on 14 December by Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber with Paltan Model Police Station.

Initially recorded as a case of attempted murder, the charge was later upgraded following Hadi’s death. On 20 December, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered the inclusion of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code in the case.

The court is now awaiting the outcome of the CID’s further investigation, which will determine the next course of legal proceedings in the high-profile murder case.
