Former Chief of Army Staff, General (Retd) Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, is set to testify on Sunday in a case against former Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), Ziaul Ahsan, over his alleged involvement in enforced disappearances and more than a hundred killings.
Confirming the matter to journalists, prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said the former army chief appeared before the tribunal to give evidence as a prosecution witness in the case.
On 14 January 2026, ICT-1 framed three specific charges against Ziaul Ahsan.
The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, passed the order, dismissing a discharge petition filed by the accused. The tribunal also set Sunday for the prosecution to present its opening statement.
Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam had pleaded for the charges to be framed, while senior advocate Mansurul Haque Chowdhury filed the discharge petition.
Earlier, on 17 December 2025, the prosecution submitted the formal charge, bringing three specific counts against Ziaul Ahsan.
Ziaul Ahsan is currently in custody and is facing trial in several cases involving allegations of abduction, torture, enforced disappearance, killings, and other crimes against humanity.
