The Election Commission (EC) has imposed restrictions on the movement of motorcycles and certain other vehicles ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections and referendum scheduled for February 12.
Under the EC directive, motorcycles will not be allowed on the roads from midnight on Tuesday, February 10, until midnight on Friday, February 13.
In addition, taxicabs, pickups, microbuses, and trucks will be prohibited from operating between midnight on Wednesday, February 11, and midnight on Thursday, February 12.
The restrictions do not apply to vehicles engaged in law enforcement, the armed forces, administration, emergency services, or those carrying medicines, medical supplies, and newspapers.
Exemptions also cover vehicles transporting passengers to and from airports with valid proof, one vehicle per candidate or election agent with proper authorisation, and motorcycles used by officials or staff on election duty.
Journalists, observers, and telecommunication service providers may also operate vehicles with prior approval from the EC or Returning Officer.
District Magistrates, Metropolitan Police Commissioners, and other authorities have been instructed to enforce additional restrictions or relaxations as necessary, taking local requirements and practical circumstances into account during the election period.
