Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Monday said that all advisers of the interim government, except one or two, have submitted their statements of assets and that the information will be made public shortly.
He made the remarks while briefing journalists at the Foreign Service Academy following a special meeting of the Advisory Council.
Although only two days remain before the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the interim government has not yet disclosed income and asset statements of advisers and officials of equivalent rank. Shafiqul Alam noted that Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus had promised to release such information shortly after taking office.
Asked about expected voter turnout, the press secretary said it was difficult to predict at this stage but expressed hope that the election would be held in a “free, fair and festive atmosphere.”
He added that the Chief Adviser was expected to address the nation before the polls.
Commenting on the Awami League, Shafiqul Alam claimed the party had been trying to create disorder since November, accusing it of being active “only online” and of having looted public funds.
He also defended media freedom over the past 18 months, saying that press outlets operated independently, previously closed outlets were reopened, and all cyber or digital security cases related to speech were withdrawn.
On Bangladesh-India relations, he said trade ties remained good, and border management was under control, but Indian media had spread misinformation that hindered improvement.
He accused former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of making statements that incited violence against the public.
Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar added that 330 foreign observers would monitor the election, including 211 from the European Union.
He emphasised that the interim government’s main objective is to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process rather than seek recognition or certificates.
Officials described Monday’s briefing as likely the final press interaction by the Chief Adviser’s office before the election, thanking media members for their support over the past 18 months.
