A contingent of the Bangladesh Navy, during a special operation, seized around five lakh Yaba tablets worth approximately Taka 25 crore from Hnila Union in Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district.

“Acting on a tip-off, the Navy contingent pursued a trafficking gang from the northern side of the Naf River and recovered several bags containing the contraband,” said a release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate on Monday evening.

The Navy personnel subsequently inspected the bags in the presence of the Narcotics Control Department and recovered a total of five lakh Yaba tablets. The estimated value of the seized drugs is around Taka 25 crore, the ISPR stated.

However, no arrests were made, and the necessary legal action is underway in connection with the seizure.

The Bangladesh Navy continues its operations and patrols within its jurisdictions to strengthen overall national security, prevent criminal activity, and maintain law and order ahead of the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections and referendum, scheduled for 12 February.

The Navy remains vigilant in coastal and border areas against drug traffickers, and its efforts are expected to be intensified in the future, the ISPR added.
