Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah on Wednesday confirmed that the official results of the 13th National Parliament Election will be announced on Friday morning, a day after voting concludes.

Speaking to the media, Election Commissioner Sanaullah said that while the registration and submission of postal votes were conducted digitally, the overall voting process remained manual.

“Each postal vote will be counted according to its respective parliamentary constituency. Only postal votes received by 4pm on polling day will be included in the count,” he added.

The commissioner clarified that dual citizens are allowed to vote, as there is no constitutional restriction. However, individuals holding citizenship of another country will not be eligible to contest in the election unless they renounce that citizenship.

Voting will take place from 7:30am to 4:30pm using ballot papers in transparent ballot boxes.

Election Commissioner Sanaullah stressed that voters present within the polling area after 4:30pm will still be allowed to cast their vote in accordance with the law.

A total of 2,028 candidates are contesting in the election, including 1,755 representing political parties and 273 independents.

Of the 83 female candidates, 63 are from parties and 20 are independent. Among male candidates, 1,692 are from political parties and 253 are independents.

He urged voters to participate actively and exercise their democratic rights responsibly, emphasising that the Election Commission has taken all measures to ensure a free, fair and peaceful polling process.
