Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus called on voters across Bangladesh to exercise their voting rights responsibly and consciously in the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum scheduled to be held on Thursday.

In a message to the nation on Wednesday afternoon, Prof Yunus urged citizens from all walks of life to participate actively in shaping the country’s future.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will cast his vote at Gulshan Model School and College polling centre in the city at 10:00 am on Thursday.

He also appealed to political parties, candidates, and all concerned to uphold democratic values, exercise restraint, and maintain a peaceful atmosphere during the polls.

“Through the referendum, the people of Bangladesh will voice their opinion on the country’s state structure and governance system. Meanwhile, the general election will allow citizens to choose representatives who are competent, accountable and responsive to the public’s aspirations,” he said.

Describing the election and referendum as a landmark moment in Bangladesh’s political history, the Chief Adviser said, “This is more than just a vote or constitutional process. It is an opportunity for the people to express their sovereign will and determine the nation’s democratic path.”

Prof Yunus highlighted that, for the first time, a large number of young voters will exercise their constitutional rights, while many adults who were long deprived of voting will also participate.

He emphasised that a free, fair and impartial election is the foundation of a democratic society and urged everyone to ensure that the polls are conducted in a credible, peaceful and festive manner.

Calling on the administration, Election Commission, armed forces, and law enforcement agencies, he said they must carry out their duties professionally and impartially to allow voters to cast their ballots without fear, intimidation, or influence.

“Your participation in this historic democratic journey will help build a peaceful, stable and inclusive Bangladesh for the future,” Prof Yunus concluded.
