Head of the Commonwealth Election Observer Mission and former President of Ghana William Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday expressed satisfaction with the overall environment of Bangladesh’s National Parliamentary Election and referendum after visiting a polling centre in the capital.
Akufo-Addo made the remarks following a visit to the Viqarunnisa Noon School Polling Station, where he observed voting activities and interacted with officials.
Speaking to reporters, he said the atmosphere at the centre was calm and orderly.
“So far, the voting environment has been very good, and I am satisfied with what I have seen,” he said.
William Nana Akufo-Addo noted that polling at the centre was being conducted peacefully and efficiently, adding that he hopes the same atmosphere prevails throughout the country for the remainder of the voting process.
The Commonwealth Election Observer Mission, led by the former Ghanaian President, is currently in Bangladesh to monitor the country’s 13th National Parliamentary Election as well as the accompanying referendum. The delegation is tasked with assessing the conduct of the polls and observing whether the process aligns with democratic standards.
